Boston with Kids

Happy August! This week has been full on back to school and getting back into routines. Which is great and all, but I’m still dreaming of our trip to Boston in June. When we can, my husband I try to travel with just one kid. We took our oldest skiing in Maine a few years back so it was our middle daughters turn. I had a work trip to Boston so we tacked on a long weekend for some extra fun!

Sightseeing in Historic Downtown Boston

Quincy Market

First up was sightseeing in downtown Boston. We stayed at the Bostonian so we were right in the heart of historic Boston. We chose a walking tour of the Freedom Trail to see the highlights which included Boston Commons, Old South Meeting House, Fanueil Hall and Quincy Market, Paul Revere House, Old State House, and Granary Burying Ground.

It was also a beautiful day to head down to Boston Harbor and spill the tea in a Boston Tea Party reenactment!

Quick Drive to Plymouth Rock and The Mayflower

The next morning we took a short drive down to Plymouth to enjoy the seashore and visit the Mayflower and Plimoth Plantation.

After learning about the Pilgrims in school, my daughter loved seeing a recreation of the Mayflower and seeing the actual Plymouth Rock.

At Plimoth Plantation, my daughter joined the militia and learned to march! We also explored the Native American village on site.

We had a great lunch on the ocean at Tavern on the Wharf. It was Sunday and the Bloody Mary’s were huge! We settled for all the seafood with Lobster Tacos, Lobster Rolls, Steamer Clams, and Oysters.

Fenway Park

Fenway Park

No trip to Boston would be complete without a visit to Fenway Park. The Red Sox were out of town while we were there so unfortunately there were no baseball games for us. We did however grab a couple beer and Shirley Temples at Bleacher Bar, a restaurant that looks into the Red Sox outfield.

All the Donuts and Cannolis

Union Square Donuts

I have a thing about trying donuts in every city I visit. It falls very high on how I rate a city and Boston is at the top. My daughter loved the M&M donut at Union Square Donuts but my favorite was the Boston Creme at Kane’s Donuts.

I also cannot skip a visit the North End for Italian Food and Cannolis. My daughter and I grabbed one chocolate chip and one espresso and could not even come close to finish these monsters from Mike’s Pastry. So delicious!

We had such a great time in Boston and can’t wait to visit again with all 3 girls! Let me know in the comments what your favorite stop is in Boston. On to the next trip!
